With the founding of GOBI through the joint cooperation of Japan and Mongolia in 1981, GOBI has been operating as Mongolia’s first and leading goat cashmere manufacturing facility.
Since more than 40 years ago, GOBI has become and remained the first and foremost leading cashmere company in Mongolia. But how did we manage to achieve what we have thus far?
Mongolia is known for producing some of the first cashmere in the world. The country’s harsh, cold climate and high altitude create perfect conditions for the cashmere goats that thrive there, yielding a soft, warm, durable fiber. We maintained the ancient nomadic roots of Mongolia and its people by embracing cutting-edge technology, alongside innovation. GOBI established a brand that supports the livelihoods of nomadic herders and the local community while also promoting environmental and animal-friendly practices.
It all dates back to 1981 when the first shipment of GOBI cashmere was sent to Japan. At that time, the demand for high-quality cashmere was rapidly increasing and Japanese consumers were among the first to appreciate the unique qualities of GOBI cashmere. The Japanese fashion industry was quick to adopt GOBI cashmere as a preferred material, as the demand for the fabric only continued to grow.

All of our products are made within our factory in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, where everything from raw cashmere processing to yarn creation to final production is done in-house.
Our story begins with Gobi becoming the first factory in Mongolia to receive an international quality prize and certificate, gradually implementing the international ISO 9000 standard. Consequently, we have begun working on improving our products, constructed a new garment factory, bolstered our capabilities with technology from Italy, Germany, Poland, and Japan, and supported the expansion and development of employees.
The work of 1.500+ highly skilled employees on various production lines begins as soon as the raw material is delivered to the GOBI factory. The raw cashmere is then processed using traditional techniques, such as sorting, cleaning, combing, carding, and spinning, to create a variety of products.
A visit to the GOBI cashmere factory is an opportunity to experience the magic of this luxurious fabric first-hand. From the moment you step inside, you are transported into a world of spinning machines, skilled craftsmen, and raw materials that are transformed into beautiful, finished products.
The first step in the process is sorting the raw cashmere. The fiber is carefully examined to ensure that it meets the high standards set by the GOBI cashmere factory. Once sorted the fiber is washed to remove any impurities or debris, before being carded to separate and align the fibers, making them easier to spin.
The spun fibers are then woven into a variety of products, including garments, blankets, and accessories. The GOBI cashmere factory is known for its attention to detail, and this is evident in the finished products. From the softness of the cashmere to the intricate patterns and designs, every aspect of the product is carefully considered and executed with precision.
One of the standout features of our factory is the commitment to sustainability. GOBI uses environmentally friendly processes and materials in their products and works with the local herders to ensure that the cashmere goats are well taken care of. This not only benefits the animals but also helps to preserve the delicate ecosystem of our goats.
